Help Us Build a Safe School for 420 Children

Donation protected
A government demolition order now threatens the future of Amatsiko Preparatory School in Uganda.

Without urgent support, 420 children could lose not only their education, but the safety, stability, meals, community, and hope that school provides.

For some of these children, there is nowhere else to go.

Some are orphans. Some come from extremely vulnerable homes. Without Amatsiko, many risk returning to the streets, unsafe environments, or a future without education at all.

We urgently need your help to build a safe permanent school before it’s too late.

For more than 11 years, Amatsiko Preparatory School in Kabale, southwestern Uganda has been a place of hope.

A place where orphaned and vulnerable children receive not only an education, but safety, encouragement, meals, community, and the belief that their future matters.

The word Amatsiko means 'hope' in Rukiga.

And every day, that hope walks through our school gates.

Today, that hope is under threat.

A Crisis We Never Expected

Recently, the Ugandan government began enforcing new infrastructure regulations targeting temporary and substandard buildings. Schools across multiple districts have already been demolished, including government schools and community institutions.

Amatsiko Preparatory School has now been told that some of its current structures do not meet the new requirements.

We have been given until August 2026 to comply.

If we cannot act quickly, 420 children could lose access to education.

But this goes deeper than classrooms.

For many children at Amatsiko, school is the safest and most stable part of their lives. It is where they receive three meals a day, consistency, support, and hope for the future.

Without this school, some children risk ending up back on the streets or in dangerous situations simply because there is nowhere else for them to go.

This is not because the school has failed.

In fact, our pupils continue to perform exceptionally well academically, especially in Primary Seven. Despite limited resources, the children continue to shine.

But our current rented location and temporary structures are no longer enough.

The Dream We Started Building Years Ago

In 2016, we purchased land with the dream of building a permanent school for the future of Amatsiko School.

But due to limited funding, construction never began.

Now, that dream has become an urgent necessity.

We already have:

* Land secured
* New structural plans prepared
* Meetings underway with engineers and district planners
* A committed local team ready to build

What we do not yet have is the funding needed to make it happen.

What We Need to Raise

We are seeking to raise $124,000 USD to build safe, compliant classrooms and essential school facilities on our land.

This funding will help us:

* Build permanent classroom blocks
* Create safe learning spaces for 420+ children
* Meet government building requirements
* Protect access to free education for vulnerable children
* Reduce uncertainty for teachers and families
* Secure the future of Amatsiko for generations to come

This School Matters

Amatsiko Preparatory School was founded by people who grew up in poverty themselves.

Co-founders Alex and Alphonse understand firsthand the barriers children face because they lived them. Alphonse worked from childhood to pay his own school fees, even raising rabbits to survive and continue his education.

That experience became the foundation for Amatsiko School.

This school was built from compassion, resilience, and the belief that education changes lives.

Over the years, supporters from around the world have visited the school, volunteered, sponsored children, shared stories, and become part of this journey.

This is more than a school.

It is a community.

A lifeline.

A place where children who have experienced hardship are reminded every day that they matter.

How You Can Help

We cannot do this alone.

Every donation, every share, every message of support helps bring us closer to protecting these children’s future.

Whether you give $10 or $10,000, you become part of keeping hope alive for 420 children who deserve safety, education, and opportunity.

If you are unable to donate, please help us by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, workplace, church, school, or community.

Together, we can build something lasting.

Together, we can protect hope.

With gratitude,

Alex Atuheire & Alphonse Twinamasiko
