Amateur Radio Volunteers Responding To the July 4th Floods
Donation protected
THIS FUNDRAISING EFFORT IS NOW CLOSED — AT THE REQUEST OF THE ORGANIZERS — BECAUSE IT HAS ACHIEVED ITS FUNDRAISING GOAL.
Although appreciated, no further donations are being accepted at this time.
As originally explained, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES®) volunteers were deployed to the site of the devastating and tragic Guadalupe River/Texas Hill Country July 4th Flash Floods to assist in search and rescue efforts. The primary lodging available was limited to hotels and motels scattered around the devastated area. Due to the length of these deployments, lodging and related expenses became substantial. The purpose of this fundraising effort was to raise sufficient funds to cover the costs of the lodging and related expenses arising from the deployments.
This effort is, and has been, sponsored by John Robert Stratton (N5AUS), ARRL West Gulf Division Director, Lee H. Cooper, (W5LHC), ARRL West Gulf Division Director, and Stuart Wolfe, ARRL South Texas Section Manager.
The funds raised will be used to cover, to the extent possible, the lodging and related expenses of the authorized volunteers.
Donations to this Fund are not tax deductible.
This GoFundMe effort was created because, at present, the ARRL does not have an established fund or funding mechanism to support reimbursement of the expenses incurred by ARES team members during deployments in support of identified emergencies and disasters.
It is the intent of the organizers to donate any monies remaining after the satisfaction of the authorized expenses of the July 4th deployed ARES Team Members to the ARRL to assist the ARRL in establishing such a fund for ARRL's use to support future ARES disaster deployments.
