Hi Everyone! Thanks for taking the time to stop by this page and consider helping out Amanda. Anything is appreciated.
My name is Shelby Jackson and I am Amanda’s younger sister (& only sibling). As some of you may already know, Amanda is a Type II Diabetic for over 20 years now. Unfortunately, her diabetes has gotten the best of her recently. Amanda noticed significant redness and swelling in her great toe (big toe) over the course of a few days, which prompted her to go to the ER. On 02/27, she was admitted to Sentara Leigh Hospital and diagnosed with osteomyelitis in her big toe along with extremely high blood sugars caused by her uncontrolled diabetes. Osteomyelitis is a very serious bone infection that continues to spread up your extremities by rapidly eating away the bone that it is infecting. After 2 days of very strong IV antibiotics at Sentara Leigh Hospital, along with rest and elevation of her foot, in hopes to stop the spread of the infection, the doctors have decided to complete a partial amputation of her toe. As you can assume, this is very hard for Amanda to accept, as it would be for anyone. Having a piece of you, especially a bone, cut from your body is not something that anyone would happily experience.
But now the stress of life is coming in full swing as she tries to figure out how she is going to afford life’s expenses. With a partial amputation, she will have to be out of work for a minimum of three weeks. Amanda is currently employed by Panera, and unfortunately, Panera does not offer any type of medical leave with pay or short-term disability. So this means no income for 3 weeks! Along with no income for daily expenses and bills, she currently has no health insurance. Despite every effort to get re-enrolled, she has had no luck with getting any type of health insurance coverage. So as you can imagine, this is not going to be a cheap hospital stay for her, and the stress of how she will afford this hospital stay and surgery is setting in. Amanda is under significant stress and worry about her amputation (scheduled for 03/02), her uncontrolled diabetes and now the financial stress due to a health issue that couldn’t be stopped. One thing about my sister, she hates asking for money for herself. But I believe that she has so many people that love and care about her and would be willing to help her in a time of need. Even the smallest donation can make a huge difference for her. Whether it be kind words, prayers, advice, or monetary donations to help make ends meet while she undergoes surgery, EVERYTHING is appreciated and will not go unnoticed!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this GoFundMe page and considering making a donation to help my sister in a time of great need. We love and appreciate every single one of you!
❤️ Shelby Jackson
