My name is Kelsey and I am the life partner and significant other of Amanda Leigh Scirocco. Amanda is an unconditionally loving, 28 year old Security Officer that was involved in a tragic accident on October 28th 2019***Warning: some of the following descriptions and content are graphic***
On October 28th Amanda was driving on RT 15 going northbound, heading to work when a vehicle on the opposite side of the highway heading southbound crashed into the divider and flipped into the air. With no room or time to move out of the way, Amanda’s car was crushed head on. The impact caused the entire front of Amanda’s car to collapse, crushing both of her legs instantly. Amanda’s car then proceeded to erupt into flames. With her left collar bone and shoulder blade broken she used her arm to open her door. She attempted to put one leg out of the car to escape the burning vehicle, and realized they were both unable to move. With a collapsed lung, broken left femur bone bulging out of her thigh, all remaining bones in the same leg broken and complete shattering of both ankles, Amanda began her miraculous fight using her arms to pull herself and crawl to safety. She was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital’s Trauma unit. From there, Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
(A few hours upon arrival at trauma unit)
(Amanda’s left knee was connected to nothing. Not a single bone in place throughout her entire left leg)
(Amanda after first procedure on left leg was completed. Entire leg was repaired with multiple permanent rods and pins from thigh to foot)

(Amanda’s right leg as we wait an undetermined amount of days until the second surgery can be performed: multiple rods keeping shattered ankle/lower leg in tact)
***Photographs of her vehicle will be updated by this weekend****
Since the accident, I have been by her side and wouldn't have it any other way. My family will be visiting soon and are being an immense support and will be of assistance wherever possible. Thankfully her insurance should cover immediate healthcare costs, but in the coming months of Amanda’s process of recovery, I will have to take time off of work to be her caretaker. The proceeds to this fundraiser will go towards reducing the financial burden that has already begun. Being that we cohabitate, I will be handling all of the bills on one income. I am in the process of filing her for disability, which will take some time. This includes rent, cable, electricity, transportation(this vehicle was shared), a new phone for Amanda, 2 phone bills, food, pet supplies for our animal, furniture leasing payments, credit card payments, and soon physical therapy and medical equipment/devices to keep her comfortable and moving around as she heals.
Amanda’s strength, determination and will to live is beyond astonishing. Myself, my family and her loved ones as well are all blessed that she is still here with us today. This traumatizing life changing event is both a tragedy and a miracle at the same time. It has been beyond challenging thus far and I know the journey that lies ahead will be extremely difficult as welI. I can not give up on my Amanda. She is my world, my person. I have been handling everything I can think of up until this point. And now, i have been faced with the fact that this is just impossible to do on my own.
We sincerely thank all of the friends, family and loved ones that have reached out with support, love, prayers, and positive thoughts for Amanda and her healing. She truly is a warrior.
