Amanda's Fight Is Our Fight

Don protégé
Just weeks after her 35th birthday, Amanda received the news of nightmares; she has Cervical Cancer Stage 4B with metastasis to her bladder and liver. A very advanced stage of Cervical Cancer. Upon her first oncologist visit for treatment plans, her husband, Blake, and her sat devastated, crying, and bewildered as the doctor offered no hope. The doctor let her know that her cancer was considered “uncurable” at the time and advised her to create her “bucket list.” At thirty-five years old! Being the woman that she is, Amanda and the love of her life demanded another option. There was no way that there was no hope.

She found a new doctor who shined the rays of hope, compassion, and action with the words, "We are going to get busy gettin’ this!"; The battle cry was heard, and she would
have a league of supporters behind her. She soon began an aggressive treatment plan that included multiple surgeries, countless doctor appointments,
aggressive rounds of chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. On her chemo days, Amanda was always the youngest patient by decades receiving treatment. She was also the first to arrive and the last to leave. She experienced life-halting side effects: Extreme fatigue, nausea, mouth sores, complete hair loss, digestive issues, weight loss, dental
issues, aches and pains, and loss of appetite. Life for her and her family was turned upside down, but how she has endured is beyond admirable. Through it all, she has maintained her one-of-a-kind sense of humor, thoughtfulness for others, humility, a true beauty inside and out, positivity, and a smile that lights up a room.

Amanda recently received the best news since her diagnosis in March of 2022. Her hard work and sacrifice has begun to pay off. Tests have shown her tumors in her liver and bladder are shrinking and the most recent biopsy of her cervix (where the cancer originated) is negative! How amazing is that!? Amanda and Blake have worked so hard to maintain financially throughout and hoped it would not come to this. Amanda has picked herself up many days when most could not; to go to work and maintain her life. Despite this, Amanda and Blake are faced with a challenging and potentially debilitating financial burden.

Despite her recent positive results, she must still receive immunotherapy every three weeks. Each immunotherapy treatment costs approximately $30,000! Thankfully, her insurance will cover it, but her annual deductible will be due immediately in December following her first treatment. Additionally, Amanda has other medical costs not covered by her insurance. She requires certain prescriptions to help manage her pain and GI system that is not covered by her insurance. Amanda has also suffered from dental problems because of her chemo treatments, requiring $2-3,000 of work.

What we are asking for Amanda and Blake to help them on their journey:

Amanda and Blake need $20,000 to help cover her medical and dental costs.
We are so grateful you have taken the time to read Amanda’s story and would so appreciate donations to help cover her medical and dental bills. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts.
