Amanda’s Breast Cancer Treatment & Recovery Fund

Hello, friends!

Everyone knows Amanda Sears as a cheerful, kind-hearted, hard-working and humble person, the kind who is a friend to everyone and always goes above and beyond to show she cares. Many of you know her as a crazy, fun-loving skydiver, or as a vegan and animal rights advocate. Others have known her as their “favorite neighborhood mail lady” for the past five years. Amanda was putting in the painstaking hours, forgoing quality time with her family and friends, and missing out on life's most important events.

Amanda and her fiancé, Kristian have been working toward pursuing their dreams – Amanda was working endless hours, trying to save money, and being the financial backbone while Kristian has been pursuing a freelance career in skydiving videography and content production.

A few months ago, Amanda noticed some pain in her breast but didn’t think much of it since the pain would come and go. When it started to linger and become more pronounced, waking her up in the middle of the night as she slept, she realized something was wrong. When a few more worrisome symptoms and a lump appeared, Amanda knew she had to go to the doctor, however, getting time off work for appointments was nearly impossible.

At the beginning of November, Amanda made the decision to resign from her job, not yet realizing the gravity of her situation. Now, she would have time to make a doctor’s appointment and search for the perfect new job; and financially, a few months without work wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Then, just 2 weeks after leaving her job, Amanda and Kristian had a massive bomb dropped on them... Amanda was diagnosed with BREAST CANCER at just 38 years old.

  • Mammogram and MRI revealed 3 separate tumors

  • Biopsies confirmed "Grade-3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma", ER+/PR+/HER2-

  • Oncotype score 47 and possible lymph node involvement indicate a very high risk of recurrence

  • 16-weeks of chemotherapy beginning December 28, 2023 continuing through mid May 2024

  • Double mastectomy in July 2024

  • Radiation treatment and reconstructive surgeries to follow

The entire year of 2024 is going to be filled with countless medical appointments and procedures. The toll on Amanda's body and mental well-being will pose challenges in terms of finding a job and being able to make ends meet on her basic living expenses. The savings Amanda thought would last months, is quickly disappearing already.

Medical co-pays and cancer related medical expenses not covered by insurance will be partially funded by a local non-profit, the Desert Cancer Foundation, which is a blessing Amanda was not expecting to receive and she is extremely grateful! Expenses will however exceed what is covered by the Foundation, so Amanda is diligently researching other organizations that provide assistance to cancer patients, and carefully filling out as many applications as she finds.

Luckily, Amanda and Kristian have a great community of friends and acquaintances – and this is where YOU come in. All of the love and support and presence you provide in their lives, whether by sending a message or a phone call, or spending time with them as they navigate this challenge is so appreciated. But we are asking for any financial assistance you are able to contribute; support of all forms is humbly accepted and will go a long way to ensure that Amanda and Kristian (and their 3 cats!) keep a roof over their heads, and food on the table. Amanda is also in need of supplies before surgery such as button-front pajamas, a mastectomy pillow, a shower chair, and other various items that will make recovery more comfortable.

While the situation, for lack of better words, totally sucks, Amanda is full of might and full of fight. We will continuously update everyone as this develops, and whether it's good advice, sharing your story, a financial donation or a donation of your time, or some odd jobs that either Amanda or Kristian can do - literally anything will be received with gratitude and appreciated immensely. As you know, Amanda and Kristian are two self-determined and passionate people working together as a team to shun the bad and embrace the good; so in the meantime, they are going to use the rest of this beautiful holiday season wisely and will spend a lot of time focusing on quality time. Life is short. God knows how certain we are of that right now.

Thank you all <3
