Amanda's Bionic Stomach
Donation protected
As a mom of an active 7 year old girl, I need to be able to show her a healthy way to eat. Imagine everything you eat wondering if you are going to be queasy, or worse. I am currently suffering from Gastroparesis which means that my stomach doesn't work correctly. As of right now, I am only able to hold down 2 meals a day consisting of 8 oz. solid foods, everything else is purees and baby food. The gastric neurostimulator or gastric pacemaker which would cut down on my neaseau, inability to always hold down food and possibly increase the amount of food I can actually eat; is simply out of our financial reach. It will be 17 grand and change for the copay after both my insurances pay their portion.
Prior to making the decision to undergo surgery, we tried many ways to get the gastroparesis under control. I have tried and follow the small particle diet along with being gluten free and limiting my fiber intake. The Dr's tried Compazine, Zolfran, Metclipramide, and now Promethazine. The promethazine helps but it causes absent seizures.
I would love to get back to being the active mother I used to be. It is so hard to go to many social gatherings because you just sit there watching people eat. Then you also have to deal with the people who are feeling sad for you. This isn't a miracle cure but it could greatly improve my quality of life.
