When I met Amanda sometime around 1992-93 she told me she had a heart condition that was supposed to kick her ass before her 30s. She then proceeded to kick its ass instead for the next 25 years like a boss.
During that time she has brought so many of us together, creating family out of the most rag tag folks you could cobble together. We are baristas, teachers, bike boys with skinned knees, crafty girls, parents, activists, comedians, dirty hippies, book worms, Duranies and more. But because of this woman, we are also a family together.
Now Amanda Sue Pants needs our help. Her recent emergency heart surgery is going to have lasting effects for Amanda and James and the poogs. She won't be able to work for awhile and her medical bills will be ridiculous. And pugs gotta eat, ya know?
Personally, Amanda touches my life all the time in a million ways. She's an amazing Auntie to my kids, is my sister, makes me laugh until I burp up Blue Moon, gives awesome advice and is always down for a mid-day cry at the bar. I know she has touched so many and I am grateful for a chance to help her and her family out right now when they need it.
Please consider giving if you can. The road ahead is long but there is no one I believe in more to be able to put this heart back in its place.
