I am Amanda's Mom. On Wednesday, June 10th, 2015 I received a phone call that made my heart stop. My son-in-law called and said my daughter fell off their roof . Anyone who knows Amanda knows she's stubborn, independent and thinks she can do everything herself. She decided to clean the gutters that morning before it started to rain. She went to the ladder to get off the roof, slipped and fell several feet to the ground.
Amanda lives in Warsaw, In. and was transported by ambulance to the Kosciusko Community Hospital. After a CT scan the doctor determined she broke her back. Due to the extent of her injury they informed us she would have to be transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, In. Another ambulance ride from Warsaw to Fort Wayne.
Amanda spent 3 days flat on her back in the hospital. The neurosurgeon advised against surgery at this time. They fit her for what is called a "clam shell" back brace. She will have to wear it for 3 months - no lifting, turning, twisting or stretching.
Amanda runs a day care in her home. She will not be able to work for at least 3 months. She also has a 2 year old son at home. She won't be able to take care of him by herself.
For the last 3 days I've been trying to think of ways to help my daughter and son- in- law. They would never ask for help. My daughter has always been the type to help others before herself. My son- in- law works but, as with most families, they need 2 incomes to pay their bills.
That brings me to the reason why I created this page. I would do anything for my kids. It's humbling to ask for help. As "crazy" as this may sound to some - going through my own cancer doesn't compare to how it feels to watch my daughter in so much physical and emotional pain. I want to ease her pain and worries in any way possible.
Any little bit would help. Their needs are few but they do have a mortgage, other bills and extraordinary medical expenses, even with health insurance. Please take a moment and pray about this, meditate or however you search your soul for a decision. Thank you in advance for your kindness. God is good!
