Amanda Romanelli - Disaster Strikes Again

Donation protected
My daughter Amanda is back in the hospital again and this time is having to make a very difficult decision.

For those of you who may not know Amanda's back story, in July of 2019, Amanda was in the hospital in the process of delivering her daughter Mila when she experienced an Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE). This condition occurs when amniotic fluid gets into the mothers blood stream and causes an embolism to lodge in the lungs causing immediate cardio-pulmonary arrest. This condition occurs in 1 of 40,000 births with an overwhelming majority of mothers passing within the first hour of onset.

Amanda survived the first hour but was in a coma for six weeks and in the process had to have her right leg amputated at the hip. The surgeons weren't sure they could save her left leg but somehow they did. Her condition was extremely critical and many of the physicians did not give her any chance of recovery. Amanda did come out of her coma which the physicians considered a medical miracle. She spent and additional 9 months in the hospital.
Amanda, Mario, and her daughter, Mila, began the process of rebuilding their lives and seemed to be heading in that direction even with all the challenges her condition contains.

Two weeks ago, Amanda began to experience extreme pain in her lower left leg. Even though the surgeons were able to save Amanda's left leg from amputation, it required quite a bit of care due to necrotic tissue that cover most of her left foot. It was this foot that was causing Amanda's leg pain. Amanda was admitted into the hospital were it was discovered that she had two infections in her foot and heel. She had MRSA and Osteomyelitis. In order to treat these infections Amanda had two courses of action she could take. She could have surgery on her foot to remove the source of the infections which would require the removal of her heel bone or she could amputate the left leg from below the knee. The surgeons could not guarantee that treating the infection with the heal removal would be the end of any future opportunities for a reoccurrence of the infection and because of that Amanda and Mario have made the difficult decision to amputate her left leg for below the knee. They are heart broken over this decision but know it is the best for Amanda's on going health.

Prior to this event, even though Amanda is confined to a motorized wheelchair she was able to provide for Mila's care while Mario was running their home remodeling business. Now Mario and his parents are caring for Mila and Mario is also trying to keep the business running while also being with Amanda at the hospital

Needless to say, this new circumstance has put this young family in some financial peril. They are going to have many medical bills and Mario is not spending as much time at work so he can be at the hospital supporting Amanda. Amanda is expected to be in the hospital and in recovery for weeks to months.

This Go Fund Me will help them to pay their bills and to hopefully offset any bills they accrue while Mario is away from working full-time. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated by Amanda, Mario, and Mila.
