Amanda Benjamin Has Her New Kidney!
Donation protected
The green ribbon Amanda Benjamin is wearing on her shoulder represents Kidney Disease Awareness. She is the 37-year-old daughter of my dear friend Marla and recently received THE MOST IMPORTANT PHONE CALL OF HER LIFE!
Amanda was diagnosed with "end-stage kidney failure" and after more than 2 years on a grueling schedule of 4-hour dialysis treatments 3 times per week, an amazing woman came forward to donate her spare kidney. The two women met and shared an extremely emotional and tearful hug.
The surgery went very well and as of May 10th, Amanda is doing very well. She is carefully following the doctor's instructions and is happy and so grateful for everyone's support.
Although insurance covers transplant surgery, there will be many necessary uncovered expenses. She is scheduled for many long and costly trips to the hospital for follow-up and close monitoring. This “new lease on life” will require a LIFETIME of taking immunosuppressants (anti-rejection medications) and many other drugs. Ongoing insurance coverage for such drugs is unknown at this time.
All donations to help ease the financial burden imposed by this life-changing event will be very much appreciated. From the bottom of my heart I am thanking you in advance.
