Amanda and Xandr Fire Relief Fund
Donation protected
In early June, an apartment fire destroyed everything for one of our Edison Elementary School families. Xandr, a first grader, recently celebrated his birthday on a Zoom call with many Edison staff and friends. His mom, Amanda, declared, “Look how many people love you!” And we do. Amanda is a palliative care and hospice nurse, working primarily with cancer patients. She is also a single mom who still managed to bring in delicious snacks with a smile and great appreciation for the Edison staff.
Xandr is a child with Autism and Rubenstein-taybi Syndrome. He has an amazing eye for engineering and looks closely at cause and effect. All his toys and school laptop for distance learning were ruined. While Amanda is going back to the apartment to see what she could clean up for him to reuse, we can help this family.
Amanda and Xandr were returning from the store Friday afternoon. Imagine Amanda’s thoughts as she felt the warm door handle and heard the smoke alarm. When she saw the orange flames, she grabbed Xandr and ran outside. As neighbors called 911, her first concern was about other people in the complex. Were they safe?
Challenges have been a part of Amanda’s life. She worked her way up from Medic in the military to recently graduating as a Nurse Practitioner. As a single mom in the Bay area, financial concerns are an on-going challenge. As a nurse and single mom of a child with special needs, Amanda faces even more.
The fire department said nothing was salvageable. Funds for this family will be used for clothing, food, housing and replacement of furniture, kitchen items ---all the things for everyday living. In addition, while legal concerns are being figured out, Amanda and Xandr need support for housing.
Xandr's wonderful teacher, Mrs. Scotland, and friends at Edison Elementary are joining together to make a difference for one of our own Edison families. Funds will go directly to Amanda. Please consider donating today.
