Amanda’s baby MaryAnn in the NICU in Savannah, GA

Hi, my name is Christy! I'm Amanda's mom and people have reached out wanting to know how they could help Amanda and her new baby girl MaryAnn! But first let me tell their story. Amanda and Garrett went on vacation with their boys to Hilton Head for Spring Break. They wanted to do this before the arrival of the new baby due May 18th. Within a few days of being there, Amanda had got a little too much sun and thought she had got sun poisoning and had began vomiting and was unable to eat or even hold liquids down. She was hurting really bad in her back and was afraid that she might be in labor. She went to the ER in Hilton Head on April 1st and was given IV fluids and they ran lots of tests with everything looking as if she was just dehydrated. They checked on the baby and she was fine. She wasn't in labor. After 3 bags of fluid and other stuff she went back to her condo feeling a little better. That night it started all over again, vomiting and hurting in her back and stomach but the pain was so much worse. She was so weak, Garrett had to call an ambulance to come get her and they took her back to Hilton Head ER. After she arrived this time and they run test, they found that there was acid in her blood and diagnosed her with Metabolic Acidosis which is normally found in people with diabetes. But she's not a diabetic. So doctors were stumped and decide its best to transfer her to a hospital in Savannah, GA equipped to handle her and the baby immediately because it could be fatal for both her and the baby. So she arrives at Memorial University in Savannah by ambulance an hour later while Garrett and the boys are still in Hilton Head trying to pack up their stuff at the condo and get to her. Upon her arrival they already have a special team of doctors waiting on her and within 30 minutes of her arriving they said they had to get the baby out because what is in her blood making her sick is also making the baby sick. So she is immediately intubated and sedated and taken into surgery and baby MaryAnn is delivered and taken to the NICU. And Amanda was taken to ICU and kept medically sedated to get her stable so they could try to figure out what's causing this in her blood. So needless to say everything happened so fast Garrett didn't even make it there in time and I was on my way but its a 6 hour drive. When I got there, visiting hours were over but her nurse was kind enough to let me in and oh my heart to see my baby in this condition. All I could do is stand over her and cry. Such a helpless feeling knowing there is nothing you can do but pray!!! MaryAnn was doing good though! They said she was a feisty little fighter. So I left that night with the nurse telling me if you don't hear from me then everything is good. I could not sleep afraid I would miss a call that something had changed. But thank God it didn't. I went back the next morning and even though Amanda was intubated and sedated she was trying to communicate with me so I ask the nurse if she had pen and paper and Amanda wrote out I still don't have a car seat for my baby. I told her to quit worrying about that, we will make sure she has what she needs to just get better. Later in the day they took her off the intubation and sedation and she began to wake up and talk. Of course she was worried about MaryAnn and was taken down by wheel chair to see her baby girl for the first time. That raised her spirits!! But doctors still don't know what caused this in her blood. And now she is having problems with her lungs so they are calling respiratory in to help with that. But she has been moved out of ICU to a High Risk Delivery Room. She's now closer to where MaryAnn is and can see her at all times on camera. Amanda is getting stronger day by day but its going to take time. MaryAnn is going to be there for a minimum of 2 weeks and that is if she meets certain feeding and weight gain requirements and her lungs and breathing are doing good. It could be longer depending on her progress. So that's why we decided to setup this page. So the bottom line is, I don't know how long they are going to be there. And if they do release Amanda then her and Garrett will have to stay in a hotel and that gets expensive along with meals. So I'm asking if anyone would like to help, it would be greatly appreciated!!
