This is the road leading to Amaike, one of the communities in Mbieri town. This gofundme account has been set up to rebuild this access road so that the inhabitants of this community are not "swallowed" by the erosion devastating their community.
As noted earlier, Amaike is a community in Mbieri, a town in Southeastern region of Nigeria, located about 8 km (5 miles) north of Owerri, the capital of Imo state in Nigeria. Southeastern region of Nigeria is essentially the heartland of the Igbos (one out of the three major tribes that make up Nigeria). This region of Nigeria was one of the most developed and progressive parts of the country because of what is popularly known as the "igbos can do spirit", which essentially can be described as the mindset of the citizens pulling their resources together to tackle infrastructural projects for the good of the larger society, particularly when the government is found wanting in this regard. Sadly, with the advent of the Nigerian civil war, which began in 1967 and ended in 1970, the successive state and local governments have pretty much failed in their duties of building infrastructure for their citizens. One of the dire consequences of this is the decay of the road network of the country. Some communities are bearing the brunt of this more than others, and from the pictures and videos you will see on this platform, Amaike community is indeed one of the worse off. In response to this utter neglect of their community by the various state government, the citizens of Amaike, particularly those in the diaspora, are making concerted effort to rescue their community from massive erosion that is literally trying to prevent access to and from their villages. One of such efforts is the setting up of Amaike Development Foundation (ADF). The sole purpose of ADF is to raise funds to support socioeconomic development in Amaike community. Amaike Development Foundation is a U.S. based organization, duly registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The first socioeconomic project the Foundation is set to embark on is the rehabilitation of the access road to the community. One may ask why the access road? As the saying goes: a picture is worth a thousand words; if that is the case, maybe a video is worth a million words. See attached video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI_Uib4qMbA&feature=youtu.be showing the access road to Amaike, hence the urgent need for the Foundation to set up the gofundme platform to raise the funds needed to rehabilitate the access road to Amaike.
The budget to restore the Amaike access road is estimated at $200,000. Amaike Development Foundation (ADF) is asking for your financial help to achieve this goal.
