Amador Valley Needs Contras!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We're on an exciting mission to take the Amador Valley Marching Band to the next level, and we need your support to make it a reality! We are trying to raise 5,000 dollars by the end of June for this to happen.

Our hardworking students have been marching with heavy and outdated Sousaphones for far too long. This has led to unnecessary injuries and has limited our musical and visual performance. But we have a plan to change this. We want to introduce 12 Contrabass Bugles, also known as Contras, to our band for the upcoming fall season.

Why Contras? Here's why.

Last year, five of our Sousaphone players had to deal with injuries, including back pains, foot injuries, and even a fractured forearm with permanent nerve damage. These injuries not only caused physical discomfort but also resulted in missed practice time, affecting our students' ability to excel in and enjoy their music.

Contras are the answer. They are designed specifically for field show marching, making them lighter and more ergonomic than Sousaphones. This reduces the risk of injuries and allows our students to perform at their best without any compromises. With Contras, our students will march safer and look and sound better on the field.

But it's not just about safety; it's about achieving excellence in music and visual performance. Contras produce a controlled, dark sound similar to concert tubas, enhancing our ensemble's musicality. Their design also allows for smoother execution of choreography, ensuring a visually stunning performance that matches the talent of our musicians.

The introduction of Contras also holds symbolic significance for Amador Valley High School. As we celebrate our centennial and Mr. Grantham's milestone birthday, what better way to commemorate these occasions than ushering in a new era of musical excellence? We aim to follow in the footsteps of Homestead High School, where the introduction of Contras led to increased student interest and pride. We hope to elevate our band program and promote a stronger sense of community and pride at Amador.
