Hi everyone,

My name is Carlos and I’m creating this fundraiser to help support my family during my mom’s brain surgery recovery journey.

My mom Amada went to the ER over the weekend, a brain tumor was found, and she went into surgery on Tuesday to remove it. We don’t know what kind of tumor it was just yet as we are waiting on pathology results, but it’s possible this may have been growing for years until it reached 7 centimeters. The road ahead will be long since my mom will have to relearn how to do stuff again. It’s likely that she will be moved to a rehab center to continue healing. She is slowly saying a word here and there, getting up and walking slowly, but that’s it for now. I will do my best to keep everybody updated because I know that she is loved by so many people. We’ve gotten so much love from the community and we’re beyond grateful. When I talk to my mom, even though she can’t really talk, I try to mention all your names to give her hope.

We’re all really overwhelmed. My family has always struggled with finances, even though we’re so fortunate to live in public housing. But with this new challenge, I will be taking a leave from work to help my sister care for our mom. My sister’s got 2 kids, and my dad lives abroad, so there’s a lot of financial stress on our shoulders at the moment.

The money from this fundraiser will go towards any expenses my family will incur throughout this recovery journey, including: medical expenses not covered by insurance, rent, food, family travel, lodging, recovery, PT, rehab, future scans, at home care, unexpected costs, and more. Any money left over I’m hoping to put in my mom’s bank account as a safety net so she has something to return to when she’s healthy enough to look for work again.
