***UPDATE***
WOW!!! LOVE!!!
Thank you SO much!
We're keeping the campaign open - any "surplus" will allow us to expand the program and bring it to more people!
We hope to produce our first VDT within the month. Stay tuned.
SO GREAT!!!
We cared for Mom at home for three+ years, read 15 books on Alzheimer's and related Dementias, did loads of internet research, went to support groups and every doctor visit but nothing gave me the deep, first-hand understanding of what Mom was dealing with like the Second Wind Dreams' Virtual Dementia Tour. I was lucky enough to do this tour with Leeza Gibbons and some folks a few years ago, and it profoundly impacted my caregiving style. Check us out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsne9-QZQH4
Geriatric Researcher PK Beville and the Second Wind Dreams organization do inspiring work fulfilling the dreams of seniors nearing the end of life. They fund some of this work through the fantastic program they developed - the Virtual Dementia Tour - a life changing experience for anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer's or related Dementias. As the adult child of an Alzheimer’s patient now in the end stages after eight long years, I profoundly understand the difficulties, challenges, and struggles of loving and caring for someone with dementia.
Every person with a loved one diagnosed with dementia, or even prescribed memory meds NEEDS the Virtual Dementia Tour! It really should be given to caregivers/family before they leave the doctor’s office. The deep level of understanding after going through this short tour is unparalleled.
We did the tour more than four years ago and there are still no Certified VDT Trainers in the west, none in California. My husband/partner and I are seasoned production folks. I’ve worked in the Art department in props and set dressing for 20+ years - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0278566/ - and Dave is an experienced Assistant Director and actor. We bring a unique skill set to deliver this amazing experience to other care givers and families. However, we lack start-up funding to finance the training and a few sets of basic equipment. We’re looking for sponsorship to get going right away.
Leeza's Care Connection in Burbank believes in the VDT and is excited to provide a home-base for us to produce the tours.
We are looking to raise $3000:
$2000 for training from Second Wind Dreams
$500 for equipment
$500 for promotional materials
With YOUR HELP we can make life better for those affected by Alzheimer's and related dementias by educating and enlightening those who love and are caring for them!
Every dollar counts!
THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!
