Alzheimer's Diagnosis
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Larry and my husband George, of 52 years, has just received a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. I am 83 and he is 77. He is a 3 time cancer survivor. Prostate, lung and colorectal, requiring external devices.
Several years ago we filed for bankruptcy due to medical expenses. After closure we were offered many options to reclaim a positive credit rating by credit card offers. Emergencies developed which exceeded our mortgage, utilities and living expenses, necessitating using credit. Our current exposure is $5,000. Monies will be used to close out all credit card accounts.
The Alzheimer's diagnosis is considered one of our world's incurable diseases. His diagnosis is in the early stages of dementia with memory recall lapses.
We would like to be involved in clinical trials of which the Mayo Clinics seem to be the leaders. They are located in Rochester, MN, Jacksonville, FL and Scottsdale, AZ. We live in New Mexico and participating in their trials will require traveling expenses which, currently, would be prohibitive.
Our doctor feels that George is a strong individual and that Alzheimer's research is on the horizon; however the cost of drugs will be high, without insurance coverage.
With budgetary needs in mind, living on Social Security is a challenge.
Our objective is to continue our life's journey together as long as possible.
The relief of our credit card debt and possible funding for Alzheimer's clinical trials will brighten our future.
