Alzheimer's care for Tommy Martin

Donation protected
Most everyone who recognizes Tommy Martin do so because of his half-century affiliation with the award-winning restaurant Five Crowns in Corona Del Mar where he served guests for 50 years with his own unique personal touch, from notable celebrities and loyal regulars to first-time guests, everyone was important to Tommy. The remainder will know of his activities outside "work", tennis, 5k, 10k, marathon runs and his support and commitment to the recovery community. No matter how you know Tommy his loyalty, sincerity, humor, generosity, and kindness are common traits that everyone experiences.
As if a global pandemic and the temporary closure of the restaurant weren't enough, Tommy's Alzheimer's diagnosis seemed especially cruel. But he continued to be grateful for what he had "I just have to remember that there are many people worse off than me".
Alzheimer's is the most prevalent form of dementia, there is no cure and it has been identified as the most expensive disease in America, more than cancer, and more than heart disease. It is also one of the most stigmatized diseases, misunderstood by too many and often marked by profound social isolation.
Tommy had lived independently in his Corona Del Mar apartment for 30 years and after his diagnosis, he was supported by friends and what in-home services he could qualify for. In February it was determined that he needed to go to the next level of care and he has been placed in a memory care facility. He Loves it, the interaction with staff and the other residents, the daily activities and the food! The cost for his first two months of respite care has completely drained his finances and his social security income falls far short of the close to $9000 a month price tag for long term care at the facility. This Brit ex-pat (now a proud naturalized U.S. citizen) who has spent his life "in service" as they say, has earned his turn to be taken care of and waited on. The facility is clean, comfortable and modest, this campaign is focused on maintaining his comfort and supporting him for as long as is possible and necessary.
The financial goal being set at $130,000 is a shot in the dark as his needs may exceed contributions or fall short. Please be assured that all funds will go directly to Tommy's needs and costs related to his care. If any excess exists it will be donated in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
"Team Martin" presently consists of Kelly Kallal, a friend and co-worker who has taken on the Herculean task of full administration of his affairs along with her family, daughter Chris, son-in-law Chuck and grandson Tommy Hosmer, Margo Brask who was working at the Five Crowns the day that Tommy came on board and myself Dennis Brask, chef at the restaurant for a part of Tommy's tenure and proud to say a friend.
