Watching Dad, Philip, slowly fade over the past 10 years has been one of the hardest things our family and close friends have ever gone through. Anyone who knows him knows what an absolute character he is. He could light up a room without even trying. And even now, every so often, we still get those cheeky little flashes of the old Dad — the twinkle, the humour, the mischief — and honestly, those moments mean everything.
But the reality is, things are getting tougher.
Dad has recently moved into an Alzheimer’s home in Worcestershire, where he’s being really well looked after (thank goodness). But he’s also in and out of hospital every couple of weeks, and one thing we’ve really noticed is how little understanding there can be around Alzheimer’s in those settings. It’s frustrating, it’s upsetting… and it’s exactly why I want to try and do something to help.
So… I’ve decided to take on a challenge starting Easter Monday the 6th April.
And not just any challenge.
I’m giving up wine.
Yes. Wine.
For a whole month!!
Anyone who knows me knows Wine has been a very committed part of my daily routine for a long time now (loyal, reliable, always there for me ), so this is not going to be easy.
There may be mood swings. There may be dramatic sighing. There may be me staring longingly at a glass like it’s a lost love.
But if it helps raise money and awareness for such an important cause — one that’s so close to our hearts — then it’s 100% worth it.
With your support, I’m hoping to get through the month starting Easter Monday the 6th (please pray for me ), raise some money, and do something positive in the middle of something that’s been really tough.
Thank you so much for any support, donations, or just cheering me on — it genuinely means the world ❤️
Feel free to leave comments, lovely memories you have of dad and anything to help me stay strong!
Want to join me in making a difference? I’m raising money to benefit Alzheimer's Society, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
More information about Alzheimer's Society: At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. We don’t want anyone to face the realities of dementia alone. That’s why your support is vital.
