Hi, my name is Alyx the stylist behind queer cuts London

I’m raising funds to support my recovery from facial feminisation surgery (FFS), which I’ll be having in November. As a self-employed trans woman, taking time off for major surgery means I’ll be without income for over a month, and I’m reaching out for help to cover my living and recovery costs while I take this important step in my transition.

I absolutely love my job—cutting hair and working within the queer community brings me so much joy and purpose. But being self-employed means I don’t have access to things like sick pay or paid leave. Your support would mean the world—it would allow me to take the time I need to heal without the constant anxiety of rushing back to work just to stay afloat.

While I’m working hard to cover the surgery itself (through savings and a loan), this fundraiser will help with the costs surrounding the trip and recovery. This includes:

• Rent and bills while I take time off

• Medication and food during recovery

• Travel and accommodation in Paris (£967 for the stay)

• Any unexpected costs, such as follow-up appointments or revisions (hopefully none!)

Gender-affirming surgeries are expensive, and even more difficult to access affordably in the UK. That’s why I’ve made the decision to travel to Paris for a team I trust. My surgery is scheduled for November 18, with a pre-op appointment the day before. I’ll return to London on November 26 and take all of December off to rest and recover—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Getting FFS is not a decision I’ve made lightly. I’ve spent a long time thinking it through, and I believe it will significantly improve my quality of life. Dysphoria has impacted my confidence and ability to enjoy life fully—from avoiding social plans to isolating myself on the harder days. I want to step into the next part of my life feeling more at home in my own face.

I’m not someone who finds it easy to ask for help. I usually try to take everything on myself, and I know that’s not always healthy. Creating this GoFundMe is part of learning to lean on others—and trust in the kindness I’ve so often seen in my community.

If you know me, you know how much I care about giving back. Through my business, Queer Cuts, I’ve offered free gender-affirming haircuts to trans people facing financial hardship and kept my prices as low as possible to ensure everyone can access a good haircut in a safe, affirming space. The love I’ve received from this community is something I try to give back every day.
