Alyssa's Journey to Healing and Recovery

Donation protected
We have organized this GoFundMe in support of our girl, Alyssa, and her family who have a long road ahead of them in healing and recovery from a traumatic brain injury. She is still critical condition in Neuro ICU.

Just 15 years old, the first thing you'd learn about Alyssa from her Facebook page is she's "Just a girl who loves horses!" "Just a girl with big dreams!"
Those that know her, know that they can always find Alyssa at the stables where this hard working girl is always giving support to the demands of the stables and horses in anyway she can; her home away from home, Breezy Hills.

This family needs all the support they can get in this trying time. The future is still unknown and in great anticipation. Anything you can spare will help immensely: $20, $35, $50, $100, $500, even $1. Please take a moment to read Alyssa’s story and the updates:

Wednesday, January 18th was just a normal day in the life of a typical teenager. Being sunny and warm for a January day, it was a perfect afternoon to spend time at the stables after school. Alyssa was in the round pen with her love; a tall, handsome, dark thoroughbred named Evan. Her friend had just arrived and greeted both of them as she was just wrapping up with Evan. The three then made their way back toward the barn and suddenly Evan decides to make a break for it, kicking into a canter back to the barn. Only the kick landed squared into Alyssa's face.

Flown out by a medevac helicopter to UMD Shock Trauma in Baltimore, Maryland, Alyssa is in critical condition. Upon arrival, she is sedated and on a ventilator to help her to keep calm, and stabilized.

Alyssa needs neurosurgery and reconstructive surgeries on her face. Her first neurosurgery took place on Friday morning of the 20th. After 8 hours, the surgery went well! But the pressure in her brain increased. She is being closely monitored and remains on a ventilator. This is just the first of many and a very long road to healing and recovery.

We believe in the power of prayer, and we have received overwhelming support from family, barn family, close friends, community, and even strangers. Please keep the prayers coming for this young, hardworking, horse-loving girl. We are grateful for the team of doctors and nurses and all those that will continue to support Alyssa throughout this journey.

Unfortunately, this journey for Alyssa and her family is just beginning. We will post updates as we can. It will still be a couple more days to understand the severity of the neurological injuries. It has yet to be determined how many reconstruction surgeries it could take. Both parents work out of the home, however, it is very likely a reduced income and increased medical expenses will be in the future to assist with Alyssa's recovery.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide financial support for this family. Angie and JB are truly the best parents to their two children, and this is a long road they are embarking on. They will need help with not only the steep medical costs including medications which are extremely expensive, co-pays and treatments for Alyssa, but for long-term care, possibly adjusting their way of life to Alyssa's new and developing needs, potentially physical therapy, and the healing beyond the physical. The reality of the situation is still unknown and in great anticipation of what her future will look like. Every dollar will be going to Alyssa and her care.

Please help us help this incredible person and her family. This is something that no one wishes or even fathoms will happen. Unfortunately, this is all part of handling livestock; it is the good, the bad and the ugly. And the friend in this story, who helped save her life, holds the hope that the first thing Alyssa will say is "Is Evan okay?!" because she loves that horse too much!

With Gratitude,
Bridgett on behalf of many requesting for this page.
