January 20th, Alyssa was admitted to Children’s Hospital ER due to chest pains. They ran several tests due to finding what they thought was a spot on her heart. After a MRI, they ruled out any heart problems, but discovered a mass in her chest. This mass was laying on 2 major blood vessels, and using her heart as a pillow. On Saturday, after much discussion, the 2 teams of doctors working Alyssa’s case, decided to operate. The mass needed to be removed as it was causing so much pain and discomfort. A few days later, Alyssa was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. For a couple weeks after diagnosis, Alyssa would endure many tests, blood draws, scans, and another couple surgeries, and was told she would have to undergo chemotherapy. She also went through injections for fertility, to harvest eggs, and went through a successful egg retrieval.
This page has been set up to help with the upcoming medical expenses that Alyssa’s family will endure as she continues to fight her battle with Cancer, and continues chemo treatments.
This is Alyssa’s senior year in high school, and the last thing she should have to be worried about is fighting cancer and dealing with chemo treatments. She should be enjoying her life as a teenaged girl and hanging out with friends, instead of going to several doctors appointments, being poked and prodded by needles, losing her hair, and having several hospital stays.
Alyssa‘a spunky and sassy attitude has continued on, despite the struggles she is facing on a daily basis. Her strength and positivity has been nothing less of amazing, staying strong even for her Mom, Dad, and Sister.
Thank you all for showing your continued support and love for the Mann family, and especially for Alyssa!
