My name is Alwyn Robinson, a Brooklyn-based musician focused on genre-blending, innovative musical technology, experimental drumming, and sonic Afrofuturism. Leading with my lifelong adoration for music, I have dedicated over a decade of my professional life to uplifting musicians, collaborating with artists, and nurturing creative community. It is with deep gratitude that I reach out to ask for your support in this next chapter of my music career: to sustain myself as a solo artist.

What I’m asking:

As many of you know, starting a business as a musician is very difficult for those who aren’t independently resourced. Though many of us have wells of passion for this influential art form, the equipment, and assets necessary to produce high quality music is inaccessible to most of us. I would be honored and humbled if you were able to invest in my growth and success as I venture onto my next artistic project. Over the past decade, I have taken a dive into the world of Americana music, a genre built on jazz, folk, gospel, and Southern American culture. My heritage lies within the definition of this music: Louisiana roots, love of the South, an upbringing on various styles of music, and the feeling of home that these musical elements bring me. Moving into my next project I want to be one of the next voices of color in Americana, pulling on the many traditions of Black American styles of music. Through this project, I hope to create an inclusive space where Americana enthusiasts can come and enjoy a widened scope of a genre built on the cultural and social landscape of the United States.

Your generous contribution will allow me to:

Keep ownership rights of all my music. This is crucial as record labels often offer funds upfront but do not have long term benefits. Owning my music will allow the full percentages of streams and licensing placements to be reinvested into my career, financial and creative control of decision-making, and a sustainable product that will support me long term
Pay for mixing and mastering and cover studio costs
Pay sound engineer and co-producers a livable wage
Compensate collaborators a livable wage
Create 2-3 live performance videos to reach greater audiences
Develop a small US release tour
Put money into marketing to build on self branding and to reach a global market (outside of the U.S.)
Avoid spending out of pocket expenses (last two projects combined exceeded $50,000 of personal income)
Support my cost of living as taxes and unexpected expenses take up most income
Create a patient approach to the recording project, which allows for smarter artistic decisions and a complete, thoughtful album.
Expands on the potential of collaborations that might not be accessible with personal income alone.
Book more shows to support music and pay musicians/crew
