This is John Worthen. A.R. “Bucky” Worthen’s youngest son.

Many of you may know dad as a band director. To us, he is our family rock.

About a month ago, dad and I were sitting in a porch swing when the frame collapsed, pinning dad’s legs underneath.

His primary doctor kept saying it was healing. Dad kept being in pain, so we went back to his doctor again. Again, the doctor said it was healing ok, even though dad was in pain.

Finally, on Wednesday, Sept.6, dad could no longer walk and we went to the Camden hospital, where he was admitted and stayed for about four days.

They said dad has severe blockages in his leg arteries, which prevented it from healing properly, so he was transferred to Arkansas Heart Hospital, where he underwent arterial surgery and extreme wound care.

Next, he was transferred to rehab in El Dorado, where he has spent this last week. He has now returned home to rehab here until he can work again.

Dad has run out of medical leave at Hampton High School, where he has served as band director for the last seven years.

Dad is 88 and still vital. He wants to continue working. He has taught thousands of kids from east Texas to Grady , Bearden, and Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He also taught for several years at Farmerville, Louisiana.

Our family has run out of emergency funds, and dad needs help until he can once again begin drawing a regular paycheck.

Dad has given so much to so many over the years, we are hoping some can find it in their hearts to give back to him. Anything you can give will help. Our family desperately needs it at this time.

Thank you,
John Worthen
