Alu needs help finding a safe home

Donation protected
Since her wrongful eviction from subsidized housing near the start of the 2020 pandemic, Alu has struggled to get her feet back on solid ground with a space of her own to heal and recover from what has been years now of prolonged homelessness and associated trauma.

Alu has been staying with a friend in the house they rent for a few months now since being abandoned in Georgia by an abusive partner, after having uprooted from Portland in hopes of a more stable living situation that quickly went sideways in really scary ways.

With the help of others Alu was able to find her way back to Portland, where she has insurance, an established primary care provider, dental care, as well as a therapist who is helping her to receive care in a more long term sense. She is on at least one low-income/subsidized housing lists, and is in the process of applying for any and all forms of assistance that she might be able to get. She has been working very hard to overcome the adversity she's faced, and has an incredibly strong desire for a better life of independence that she's been working to create for herself.

Unfortunately, yesterday morning(4/14/2025), one of her friend's roommates decided to take issue with Alu's presence in the house and has been threatening to have her removed from the house by law enforcement. Their has been efforts for diplomacy made by Alu, her friend, and other roommates in the house calling for a more reasonable path forward that takes her safety into consideration, however, he refuses to have a healthy conversation about any of it and continues escalating in his demands and behavior. As of now he's saying he's going to call the police on Wednesday(4/16) to have her removed, as well as threatening to have her friend evicted.

Alu doesn't have any real options for places to stay, and would be back on the street if things go this guys way. She has suffered from abuse in shelter's in the recent past, and those aren't safe places for her to be. As much as possible, and with limited resources, her and her friend, as well as sympathetic roommates in the house are trying to help find ways to mediate, and alleviate the situation. She needs all the help she can get to establish somewhere safe and relatively stable to stay so that she can have a real chance at the independence she seeks.

These housing waiting lists/processes are long, convoluted, and competitive, it's going to take time, which is something she isn't being afforded in these circumstances.

She is now seeking help so she can afford temporary housing, food, and transportation so she can pursue medical support without fear of homelessness.

She has very limited access to the internet, so I'm (Cory Francis) helping set up this fundraiser for her. All donations will go directly to Alu.
