Friends of Veronica and John Canver are devastated by their recent bad news regarding the health of their 6-month old son Altan. Altan a health baby recently suffered cardiac arrest and was transported to Children's Hospital where they revived him and transferred to the PICU. Although the first responders did all they could and saved Altan, the trauma placed him on full life support for weeks under deep sedation to suppress Status Epilepticus, a severe cerebral seizure episode. Through the first days of the trauma, Altan is believed to have suffered significant brain damage confirmed by MRI and is expected to be challenged with cognitive, motor, and other potential functions. The family hopes to have Altan back at home before June, but home will only be the beginning of their journey. Altan will need supervised medical care every day going forward and the family is searching for qualified providers. They have not given up any hope and have identified a very progressive medical procedure that attempts to lessen the oxygen deprivation damage already done, but placing Altan in a hyperbaric chamber daily to expose him to high pressure concentrated oxygen for an entire treatment protocol over 10-weeks which medical insurance currently does not cover.
We are trying to coordinate any support we can to support Altan in his long journey to improved health and well being. He has been through enough in his initial 6-months and pray that this new therapy and care will provide him all he needs and deserves.
