A.L.S. vs Bryan McDowell

I’m here to tell you a story of our friend and co-worker Bryan McDowell. Bryan has been an employee of Fortes Bros. Towing since 2010. I hired Bryan as he was transitioning from a different career and was excited about becoming a towing operator. Bryan’s work ethic and commitment to serve our customers with exceptional service is why we brought him on. As I learned about Bryan’s past, it made me think what keeps this guy with such a positive outlook at life. He wasn’t dealt with best hand in life so far. Both Bryan’s parents died when he was young. Not only was he on his own but needed to watch over his brother. Bryan changed his future plans and dreams to be in the U.S. military and decided to work and sustain a life for himself and his brother. Bryan’s brother suffers from medical conditions and is epileptic. With all the road blocks in life Bryan continues to forge ahead and have the “Do What I Have to Do” attitude.

This past December Bryan was diagnosed with ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. ALS has made national attention with the viral videos of the ice bucket challenge. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. Bryan has done his best to continue working for us. It has come to a point where daily functions are becoming harder to do.

I am requesting to everyone and anyone to help this wonderful human being. We are trying to reach a goal of $20,000 or more. These funds will be used to pay for Bryan’s pending medical expenses, set-up an expense account for his brother and let Brian fight the fight against ALS. Please donate and Thank You!
