ALS sucks! Help Jason and Sarah

Donation protected

Edit: A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that has contributed to our GFM so far. This helped secure our whole house generator, which took a monumental weight off our shoulders. The remaining amount continues to cover various bills and expenses towards the house (some planned, some an unpleasant surprise).

As time had rolled on we have seen some changes to our everyday lives. Unfortunately, the nursing shortage hasn’t gotten any better. We still struggle to find home care that will allow us adequate respite. On average, we get nurses for about 5-12 total hours a week when we need 24/7. Some weeks we get no nurses at all. Sarah has not worked since the beginning of 2022 and  provides round-the-clock care. Sarah’s mom has been living with us to help and had to cut hours at work to help balance the needs at home. All of this has led to a drastic drop in family income.

We still have friends and family ask what they can do to help us, so we decided to leave the GFM open to allow those who want to provide some financial assistance. This will help with the ongoing bills and mortgage. We continue to apply for grants for some of the out-of-pocket medical expenses, but they can only go so far.

Again, if you’re struggling financially but still want to help, reach out to us! The yard work is never ending, and there’s always other chores that fall through the cracks. Anything helps! <3

Original post:

ALS sucks. This really isn’t a new revelation to anyone that knows this disease, or knew someone that experienced it. It robs you of your body, your freedoms, and much more.

It is also a long and winding road that comes with a lot of unplanned bumps. You find yourself worrying about things you didn’t expect. What happens if the power goes out and we can’t use lifesaving equipment? How can we also handle the household chores when there’s a mountain of other responsibilities? What if something  we need isn’t covered by insurance? Unfortunately, the simplest solution to a lot of these problems is money.

While we try not to ask for much (read: stubborn), many of you want to help in whatever way you can, so this page is our solution.

We’re looking to start with buying a backup generator for our home to run Jason’s lifesaving equipment during a power outage. We have a plan in place in the meantime, but it requires quick action and thinking that Sarah doesn’t feel comfortable leaving to someone else’s responsibility if she’s not available. We’re estimating the cost for what we need to be at least $5k.

Jason has also been frequenting the hospital over the last few months. The bills begin to add up fairly quickly. Insurance helps a lot, but we’d like to cushion the blow a little more.

Lastly, services like lawn care/house cleaning/grocery delivery/private nurses/etc take a big weight off of Sarah’s shoulders, but they don’t come cheap. Anything extra can help pay for these services as well.

If you’re here because you’re curious, but you’re broke as a joke, we also accept yard work, household chores, or food as payment. We are also in desperate need of local RNs to join our ranks for home nursing care, and need constant recruitment help. We will turn nothing away, we just suck at coordinating things.

Full disclosure - this is the only thing between us and Sarah starting an OnlyFans. For everyone’s sake, please donate what you can.
