My name is Alondra and I was in a terrible accident.
On September 18th, 2021 my day started just like any other day. Around 4:30am I was traveling on the freeway, on my way to work when my I got a flat tire. I made a phone call to my sister and my job letting them know my situation.
I decided to change my tire myself instead of waiting for help; not knowing that decision would change my life forever. I was hit by a vehicle going 65 mph. I was taken to the hospital and immediately taken into surgery.
It wasn't until around 7:00pm that I was able to call my family and tell them where I was. I sustained multiple fractures in my hip, skull and back as well as lost my left leg from the impact. Although I have insurance it will not cover everything needed to regain function.
As you could imagine I will need to adjust some things at home as well as prepare for this long road to recovery. Things I will need include: wheelchair ramp, bathroom rails, adjustable bedframe, etc. I currently I have 2 pins in my left hip, I wear a back brace when mobile and I am experiencing phantom limb pains. I will not be able to work until I am fully healed. The funds donated will me pay my bills, help my family make adjustments as well as help with legal fees to pursue my case. Eventually I will need to buy a car but that is later down the road and the least of my worries.
My goal is to continue to live my life to the fullest. I will not let this hinder me from doing what I love which is hiking and traveling the world with my family. Seeing the different prosthetic legs I have learned they range from 5,000 to 50,000 and some types like for hiking are not covered by insurance.
I am extremely grateful for my family and friends who have kept me positive during this process.
