With the blessing of Kaʻohinani’s family, we are raising support for Kaumana Kalama. Kaumana is the only son of Kaulike Kalama, fallen HPD officer, and Ka‘ohinani Kalama, who also recently passed of a brain aneurysm. This GoFundMe account has been created as a way for the community to be able to donate to Kaumana.
My name is Nicole Lopez. I am the owner of Hekili Designs and I am the initiator and coordinator. Ka'ohi and I have been friends for many years. We met years ago at the Kapolei Rec Center where 'Ohi and I worked as lifeguards after highschool. Ka'ohi and I stayed close even after she left the pool and gave birth to Kaumana. After Kaulike's passing in January, Ka'ohi and I were working to create products in support of his memory. Unfortunately, days before completion, Ka'ohi herself passed away. Projects were unable to come to fruition and ultimately, my heart was broken, and I just really wanted to find a way to kokua Kaumana.
I know that education was always first and foremost the highest priority for 'Ohi. Ka'ohi, was a 2003 KS graduate, and valued education immensely and always made sure Mana did his best in school, and she has been more than successful! Kaumana is currently a sophmore at KS Kapalama and 4.0 student. Kaumana is not only a dedicated student but also a young and budding waterman and I want to be able to help him fulfill his dreams. I plan to have all funds raised disbursed to a UGMA account to support him in all of his future endeavors.
Mahalo nui for contributing to this young kanaka. It means a lot to me and I have no doubt his mom is smiling down on the fact that he will be able to go to continue his education with so much support from such a giving and generous community.
