Alms for Old Cully...

I'm running this fundraising campaign on behalf of my dear friend and Dreadlord in Friends of the Dark in his persona as Old Cully, William Cheok. William is one of the kindest souls I've come across in my many turnings of the Wheel, and I have personally witnessed how this community can rally around and support one of theirs in need. He is actively involved in the Wheel of Time community across multiple FaceBook groups, has gained a large following as a particular lurking spider on TwitterOfTime, and his WOT meme game is lit (Is that what the kids are saying these days?) Not to mention his beloved status and contributions to WOT's island of misfit toys, FOTD. Old Cully is one of ours and needs our help.

The Malaysian healthcare system has failed our friend William. He has had two heart attacks in the last three years. A common occurrence for heart attack survivors is edema due to fluid retention. If not treated, this can lead to kidney failure. The general course of treatment is diuretics to help your kidneys and heart clear the body of the excess fluid by peeing it out. Any cardiologist worth their skin would know this. As an experienced medical librarian and a heart attack survivor, I know this. The doctors treating William did not. His kidneys have failed him and he now requires bi-weekly dialysis to live. This is not covered by public healthcare in Malaysia, so his dialysis treatments are entirely out of pocket which is a fair percentage of his income. William also provides financial support to his elderly mother. To afford his dialysis treatments, he has had to borrow and rely on the kindness of others to live. I have been wiring him money as needed to help cover. He recently applied for a government program to offset some of the costs of his treatments and was denied and has to appeal. He feels his government wants him dead. He needs dialysis to live and feels like he is out of options. Imagine that state of mind.

Please help William. Yeah, we play at darkfriends online but he truly has a loving heart that doesn't deserve any of this. Based on the exchange rate between the US dollar or the Euro and the Malaysian Ringgitt, any little bit will help immensely. Alms, alms for Old Cully...
