THE PERFECT STORM
It can be overwhelming to handle one life crisis at a time – imagine getting bombarded with three simultaneously.
This is the perfect storm. A career woman who experienced an unexpected job loss. A woman in her prime handed a life threatening diagnosis. A single mother with her only child about to graduate high school.
Amanda was already extremely stressed when her company announced corporate downsizing, office closures and layoffs in March. With just months away from her son's high school graduation, she had been worrying about his future, dealing with college applications, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. Now she had to worry about both of their futures and begin the dreaded job search.
But Amanda hadn’t been feeling well for quite some time. With strange symptoms coming and going, the doctor's chalked it up to stress, anxiety, menopause, allergies. The list goes on. She endured the turmoil of misdiagnosis, the drama of second opinions - third opinions - wrong opinions - until the mystery was finally solved. Unfortunately it was the worst news possible. A CT scan finally revealed the culprit: a rare grapefruit sized cancerous tumor growing inside of her chest cavity.
Amanda's condition is complicated. Her tumor is entwined with critical veins and arteries that supply blood to her heart, so time is of the essence. Her doctors have started tackling it with radiation and chemotherapy in an attempt to shrink it down, halt the growth, and increase the crucial blood flow.
Now she is in need of a second specialized biopsy to determine the long term course of chemo. With continued radiation and the addition of the proper chemo, the hope is to reduce the size of the mass so that it might become operable in the months to come.
In the meantime, the costs are mounting and, as a single mom with no immediate family, Amanda is tackling this solo and has exhausted all of her savings and financial resources. With no income to cover living expenses, the high cost of surgeries, insurance deductibles, co-pays, medications and cancer treatment, Amanda needs urgent financial support. Thus we find ourselves here, reaching out to our community of friends and extended networks of friends and family.
Please give what you can. It’s so critical to help in these situations when someone truly needs a life boat. It's a long road ahead and she’s going to need a lot of love, and prayers as well as financial support.
Amanda's son Collin, has been the light of her life from the moment he was born. She is so proud of how he has grown into a strong, intelligent young man. As a full time student with a part time job, now he also runs errands, fills prescriptions and grocery shops for his mother. He’s really stepped up to the plate. He graduates in June and Amanda is determined to see him walk down the aisle in his cap and gown to receive his diploma.
Amanda dreams of what every mother does – to experience all of the joyful moments in her child's life as he fulfills his own destiny. Let's help her get there.
Thank you.
