Alma Pimentel Bone Marrow Transplant Recovery
Team R&R first met Alma Pimentel when she entered their Zumba® class at Boston North Fitness Center in 2017 wearing a smile that lit up the far corner of the room that ultimately became her permanent spot in class. As she danced and laughed throughout her first Zumba® class, she radiated an unmistakable joy that was both captivating and energizing.
Approaching Alma after class, Team R&R learned that Alma, a single mother of two amazing and loving sons, was 2 years post-brain surgery and while she did feel joy during class, she also felt concern that her movement was restricted because of the surgery. Unencumbered by her concern, Alma allowed the music to move and guide her and shared her inspiring joy and grace with the class. She has said that Zumba® was her "healing therapy". However, Alma has been the real healer as she continuously allows her joy and gratitude to light up each class she attends.
Over the last four years, Alma has been waging an enormous war against a medical condition that began in 2002 as myeloproliferative neoplasms and has progressed to an illness that now requires her to have bone marrow transplantation after exhausting all other chemotherapy interventions. This life-saving procedure will require Alma to be hospitalized and isolated for 3 months and includes an extensive recovery period that will require Alma to be out of work and unpaid for an extended period.
It is our hope that the courageous and contagious joy Alma brings to and generously shares with our Zumba® family can be returned to her by providing the financial assistance that will allow her to focus on her healing and recovery until she can dance with us again!
Please consider joining Alma's team of supporters by giving as you are able.
