On September 21st, 2020 Alma was experiencing aggressive migraines; she thought nothing of it since it was something that happened so frequently. She experienced pain to her right side of the brain for 10 consecutive days. She went to Raulerson Hospital due to the pain, shortly after her arrival Alma was transferred to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center because her brain appeared to have some swelling. The swelling was due to a brain tumor that had been developing on her right side of the brain. Alma had a biopsy procedure as soon as she arrived to Lawnwood and was advised to get surgery as soon as possible because the tumor appeared to be growing in size, and medication was not an option to reduce the size of the tumor. Immediately, after the surgery her neurologist had some devastating news, he had stated that Alma's tumor was cancerous and he had diagnosed it as "glioblastoma". (very aggressive brain cancer)The neurologist had over 30 years of experience within the field of brain tumors and he was confident in his diagnosis. However, when her biopsy results came back it showed that she was she was cancer free.
Right after Alma's brain surgery which was a 10 hour procedure, she went into seizure. The following day she had a brain stroke which caused her to suffer a paralysis to the left side of her body; because of the stroke Alma was unresponsive the first week after her surgery, she also had blood clots in her brain. Our faith remained strong and we were confident that Alma was going to overcome all odds. Alma progressively made improvement on her body movement, so she was sent to a rehabilitation center to help her regain strength on the left side of her body. Alma was doing so well and making drastic improvements as the weeks progressed, and she had a date to go home. (November 9th) was the day she was supposed to go home. While at the rehabilitation center she contracted an infection to her surgery incision and had to get another surgery to release some of the fluids that was accumulated in her head. The duration of this surgery was 5 hours, so as you could imagine this is taking a toll on Alma's body, so she has to regain her strength and will most likely return to the rehabilitation center after she recovers from this 2nd procedure.
Alma worked at East Coast Migrant Headstart as an early childhood teacher, she was supposed to return to work the first week of October. Due to all the unexpectedness that happened within the last couple of months and procedures that she is undergoing, she will most likely not return to work for a while. She is not working and not receiving any financial support. Alma has 3 beautiful daughters that she is independently raising. Her oldest daughter Yareli Rojo is 16 years old, her middle child Yarisely Rojo is 12 years old, and her youngest daughter Yiselle Rojo is 8 years old. They miss their mother dearly, and are unable to see her due to the virus. Alma's daughters have not seen their mother since September 21st, 2020 (only through facetime). Alma has not been able to tend for them due to her illness and her daughters are going through a difficult time as their mother is their only source of support.
We kindly ask if you could donate to help her family out financially as Alma is the only source of income that her daughters have. Anything would be greatly appreciated, and thank you to all who is concerned.
