At the age of 33 Ally has been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. We were lucky that we caught it early. After the first surgery, which successfully removed the tumors, but not quite enough of the surrounding tissue, we found out she tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutations, and as a result they have recommended a bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstruction.
Both of us are fortunate to be working during COVID but our income has been drastically reduced due to our new jobs. Ally unfortunately is not able to get short term disability through her employer and due to missing 2 weeks after the first surgery and possibly up to 4 weeks of work after the second we are already hurting. While we have health insurance it has a very high deductible and out of pocket maximum, which we are sure to reach this year.
In addition to all this, the heating system in our house is failing and we are quite possibly going to incur a major expense to replace it.
Through all of this, Ally has always been the type of person who would do anything for her friends and it has been difficult, because while she has continued to do everything she can to support her friends and family, the hardest thing for her has been, feeling like she cannot be there for the people who need her.
All the proceeds from this will go toward paying for her medical bills and any left over will go to help pay to replace our aging heating system in our home.
