All-terrain wheelchair funding.

Hi all, my name is Gemma. I am seeking help to fund an outdoor, off-road all-terrain wheelchair (GTE by treckinetic) to allow me to complete my studies in Environmental Sciences and enjoy the great outdoors again. I have always loved the outdoors and nature but since getting ill I have lost the ability to walk far especially on tough terrain. I use crutches and a wheelchair to mobilise however neither can cope with muddy tracks or woodland walks. Growing up I spent my holidays hiking or exploring in the outdoors which I love so, this passion drove my interests to study the environment. This Easter (when I aim to meet my target!) I have a compulsory field trip for my accredited degree however fear I will not be able to fully engage without an all-terrain wheelchair. I have also gained a research position with Highways England to complete alongside my masters however again feel I am being held back due to not being able to access the sites I will be researching and working on. I have been diagnosed with Elhers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which is a genetic condition and connective tissue disorder affecting the collagen in my body causing subluxations and dislocations of my joints, especially my hips are the most problematic. I had surgery at 16 to reconstruct my ankle ligaments which are now supported with plastic plates. However, my hips are more complex and there is no surgery available to help. I suffer daily with chronic pain and fatigue however I am learning to adapt and mobilise in new ways in attempt to continue my studies and pursue a career in the environmental field. I am excited for the upcoming opportunities and determined to not let anything stop what I wish to do and achieve in my career and personal life. Not only would this wheelchair aid my studies, it would enable me to enjoy woodland walks with my family which I miss the most.
