My husband, Joey Carpenter and I (Amanda) are expecting our 5th child. At 20wks gestation, we learned through amniocentesis that our baby girl, Allison has Full Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards Syndrome. It is a rare chromosomal defect in which there is an extra chromosome, the 18th, that disrupts normal development. Trisomy 18 is considered "Incompatible with Life". Our Allison is fighting hard to prove them wrong. We're currently 38wks. Our specialist is planning on taking Allison on Wednesday, May 13th. A lengthy NICU stay is anticipated as we won't know all of her challenges until she arrives. As you can imagine, this has been a struggle for our family, emotionally as well as financially. Pre-natal medical expenses already exceed over $4,000. I have been unable to work during this pregnancy, and with the birth of a special needs child, do not anticipate being able to return to work anytime soon. My husband is the sole provider for our family, and as many of you are aware, the oil and gas industry has suffered recent decline. My husband very much wants to be with Allison when she arrives. Any support or contribution so that we may optimize our time with Allison, and to provide special care for Allison is greatly appreciated. God has seen us through this far, and your help will be a blessing to our family.
