Allison's Road To Recovery
Donation protected
On the morning of January 29, 2019, Allison got out of the shower feeling light-headed. The next thing she remembers was lying on her bathroom floor with blood running down her face. She had fallen & hit her head on the edge of the ceramic tile that surrounds her tub. The fall resulted in a large gash on the top of her head. There she laid, for what ended up being about 3 hours (thankfully she only thought it was 15 minutes). When she didn’t show up to work her boss called one of her brothers which resulted in a succession of calls & help finally getting to her. She was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena by ambulance where they immediately did a CT scan followed by an MRI. After hours of waiting (& worrying) we were told that she had suffered a massive ischemic stroke. At this point, her only option for survival was to be life-flighted to Salt Lake City to the University of Utah Level I Trauma Center, for lifesaving treatment. Once there, she immediately underwent a cutting edge endovascular procedure that involved brain surgery to remove two blood clots. Allison could not feel or move the left side of her body and her vision was impaired. She also had some cognitive delay but was coherent and able to understand the severity of her condition once she was told. She spent 2 and a half days in ICU in order to be monitored very closely for the high risk of brain swelling &/or bleeding, both of which are a potential side effects of the medicine used to remove the clots. From the ICU she moved to the Neuro Acute Care at the U of U Trauma Center, where she is currently - only time will tell if Allison will regain full function. What we do know is that she faces an extremely long road to recovery. She will have to overcome many challenges; physically, mentally & financially. God is so gracious and we are so thankful that Allison has survived this tragic ordeal. All of your continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated. We are reaching out for help to get her through the reality she faces. We will provide updates when we can. We are so thankful for anything you can give. Love the Petty’s.
