Alli's Emergency Lupus & Hospital Fund

Most of you know my sister and I are always together. She's like the 2nd mom to my kids and my best friend. Tragedy hit home last week when my sister was admitted to the hospital and we did not know what was wrong with her. After many tests, she was transferred to Holmes Regional Medical Center and the doctors discovered that she has lupus and Sjögren’s syndrome (both autoimmune disorders) which between the two, are attacking her organs and reeking havoc on her blood. Her hemoglobin is at 5 (normal is usually over 12.5) and her platelets are at 12,000 (normal is between 150k-400k). The doctors have decided plasmapheresis is the best option to help save my sister.  (Plasmapheresis a method of removing blood plasma from the body by withdrawing blood, separating it into plasma and cells, and transfusing the cells back into the bloodstream. It is performed especially to remove antibodies in treating autoimmune conditions). Thankfully the last day, she has been more awake so things are looking better with the Plasmapheresis treatments. She is also on dialysis as the doctors just are not sure the amount of damage that has been done to her kidneys. The doctors think that she could potentially be able to go home in the next 2 weeks if her body allows her to spread the treatments out to twice a week. She has been continuously getting blood transfusions and will need to continue those on outpatient basis as well. This is best case scenario if the treatments continue to work (the doctors are hoping they do). Worst case would be the treatments don’t continue to work and then we have to revisit different options, but we are not even wanting to think about that at this time. She will also need to have a kidney biopsy in 1 week to see the extent of the damage to her kidneys and stage this at a 3, 4 or 5 (the doctors say she has no chance of being a 1 or 2). -so let’s think best case scenario, she may get to go home in 2 weeks but will need to continue plasmapheresis on Monday & Thursday and then will need Blood Transfusions on Tuesday and Friday. With all this being said, this is where she needs her community and friends to help. She provides the main income to her house. Her daughter, my niece, has been staying with me and her uncle and cousins until my sister is well enough to come home. She will be out of work for quite some time as she will be unable to work as she will be constantly traveling back and fourth for treatments all week, not to mention she can’t even stand on her own. This has been a rough time for all of us and I know she will appreciate any help that is able to be provided to her. Any donations will help. If anyone is able to offer food or meals for when she returns home or anything else that could be helpful, please contact me (Christina) at (phone number is in code due to gofundme policy) THREE-TWO-ONE- FIVE-THREE-SEVEN-THREE- SIX-EIGHT-SIX

or [email redacted] Thank you for taking the time to read her story.

Sincerely, Christina (her sister)
