Cover The Montgonion's Alligator Sign Citation
Donation protected
On January 29, 2025, the publisher of The Montgonion, Montgomery County, Maryland's satirical news website, received a $50 citation from the Park Police. The offense? Posting signs on park property warning people near ponds and streams to avoid alligators in a state of brumation. There are no alligators in Maryland, and certainly no frozen ones. It was a harmless prank. The police unfortunately didn't see it that way.
The Montgonion has no revenue, except a pittance from t-shirt sales. It doesn't even try. It's not a money making thing. The publisher eats the cost.
Montgonion rewards its reporters in beer purchased from Jonathan's Sports Pub in Rockville using its t-shirt sales happy hour slush fund. That fund was wiped out by the police citation, and this Go fund me is to replenish it.
Now more than ever, it's important to take a break from the crazy news cycle and bring things down a notch. Let's make sure The Montgonion writers are buzzed enough to keep the laughs rolling.
Any funds collected in excess of $50.00 will be donated to Montgomery County Humane Society.
