Allie was 4 months old when she started visiting hospitals for medical problems. At 4 months old she was diagnosed with severe tracheal thrush, at 6 months she was admitted for aspiration and dehydration. Tests revealed that she had severe silent reflux which led to a surgery (nissen fudoplication with a G-tube) in 2010. This surgery is designed to stop the up-flow of stomach acid but it has the same effect on all stomach contents, at all times; When most kids just throw up, Allie has to be taken to the hospital to have a tube placed through her nose into her stomach and she can not burp.
When Allie turned 3 she started retching a lot, getting severely bloated and experiencing constant and progressively worse stomach pain. In January 2014 Allie was admitted for 8 days to stop the retching and to identify the cause of her symptoms. After many x-rays, swallow tests, IV's, radioactive egg motility test and ultrasounds doctors at the local hospital were unable to identify a cause. Their pediatrician recommended that they go to Denver Childrens Hospital.
Denver reviewed all her tests and she was diagnosed with gastroparesis, gas bloat syndrome, celiac disease, slow motility and possible autonomic dysfunction. In August 2014, Allie was admitted for a pressure test for her stomach. They found that the pressure in her stomach is EXTREMELY high which would explain all her constant pain. She was then diagnosed with pyloric stenosis. After trying various medications without success, in September 2014 they dilated the pyloric antrum (bottom muscle of the stomach) and injected botox in the muscle to keep it open. That unfortunately didn't work.
Allie is scheduled for surgery on November 19th, which doctors say is the last option to treat her pain and discomfort. The surgery will require the family to travel to Denver and for Allie to recover in the hospital for 5 days as well as face various procedures like IV starts that she has become far too familiar with in her 5 years.
Through all of this Allie has been able to maintain a relatively "normal" childhood thanks to her amazing parents and supportive family. If you saw her on the gymnastics floor keeping up with girls 2 years older than her, playing with her little sister Danni, or riding one of 'g-ma's' horses, you would never guess how much this strong little girl has been through. Despite that, the whole experience has taken an emotional and financial toll on the family. This fund was created to help them pay off existing medical bills before Allie's next surgery.
Allie's mom Kristen is a firefighter/paramedic and her dad Jason is in the Navy Reserves following a 15 year career in the Navy, including one tour in Iraq. They have both dedicated their lives to serving their community and country and now is the perfect opportunity for us as their friends, family, acquaintances and even strangers to help them in such a simple way.
Please chip in what you can, even if it's just a small amount and pass this along to your friends and family!
Thank you!!!!!!
