November of 2014 was the beginning of a journey for our dear friend, Allison Ridgeway Doan, and her family. An ultrasound and several CT's would reveal 3 large lymph nodes in her chest, 3 nodules in her lungs and 2 nodules in her thyroid gland.
January 7, 2015 the doctor informed Allison that she had what looked to be medullary thyroid cancer, a very rare form of thyroid cancer. They diagnosed her with Stage IV neuroendocrine lung cancer. Allison bravely began a clinical trial at MD Anderson in April of 2015.
Recently the scans revealed the disease had progressed and Allison was taken off the clinical trial. Beginning Monday, December 21, 2015 Allison will begin chemotherapy treatment through IV at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
The most remarkable part of this journey is Allison’s ability to continue to share her faith and settle the fears of everyone who loves her so deeply. At a time when we all should be comforting her, she would often remind us to not fear. One of my favorite posts she made said, "I cling to my strong faith in our loving heavenly Father who holds me and this situation in His loving hands." It was not long after that we all wished we could be ALLI-STRONG!
We each have our own story of how much Allison means to us. I feel my story is probably much like everyone else’s reading this. I only found true and everlasting friendship the day I met Allison. She invited me into her world and introduced me to so many other amazing women. And without each of these women, life would be empty, boring and bland. We share beautiful memories and crazy stories that would truly inspire a reality TV show! Allison has woven so many of us together and inspires us with her bravery and outlook on life.
Many have asked how to help, but are not local or not sure what they can offer. So we have started this account to help relieve the burden of insurance co-pays and deductibles and medical bills not covered. Please do not feel obligated. We do ask that you remain Alli-Strong in daily prayer for the Ridgeway-Doan family.
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you sayeth the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future."
