All for Paul!

This is probably one of the most difficult things I've had to write and unfortunately it has come to this.

About a month ago, my favourite uncle, Paul Tam and I planned a short vacation to San Francisco. Being quite close - travelling, seeing new places, and meeting new people were just one of the many commonalities we had with each other. On the second night of our stay, my uncle and I were on our way back to our lodging when we were subject to a violent assault by two attackers. One of them had a weapon and lacerated my Uncle in the head. The unbelievably horrid act left my dear Uncle needing to be rushed to the nearest hospital for brain surgery and was put in a coma. The doctors said he wouldn't live past 24hours, but he fought bravely through all the odds, battling severe infection, high brain pressure, a tracheotomy, a botched gastric tube procedure which led to an emergency operation to clear leaking gastric fluid but on 24 March, he finally succumbed to a brain hemorrhage that eventually took his life. I respect him so much for being so incredibly brave and am in awe of his fighting spirit.

This has been extremely difficult for my family as well as all of Paul's beloved friends around the world (his Tamily). My Uncle has the most caring, genuinely loving heart and soul I have ever known. I'm not quite sure as to why this would ever happen to someone like him. Sadly, the travel insurance, victims of crime division of the SF district attorney's office and the SF hospital where Paul was housed have not helped much in making this any easier financially. Now that it has come to laying my dear Uncle to rest, we chose a lovely spot in Orange County to be his final resting place. It is beautiful. It overlooks the sea and is very sunny, tranquil and serene. He came to California for just this scenery. It is a fitting and deserving place for him. Unfortunately, the cost of the burial ($50000) is not supported by travel insurance or victims of crime (they supported the majority of the mortuary costs). This, along with all the expenses of going to and from San Francisco to visit him, going to the UK to settle his personal accounts and the future cemetery costs has given my family unanticipated financial stress.

This campaign, in memory of Paul Tam's fighting spirit and the impact he had on the world, will help provide funds to alleviate this financial stress.

Any donation towards laying him to rest would mean the world to my Uncle Paul, my family and I'm sure, all of Paul's friends as well. This sudden tragedy has changed my family forever, but it has also led us to understand even more how great a man, uncle, brother, son and friend he was to the world.

Thank you for all your time and your thoughts. We're all hoping this provides a peaceful end to this tragic saga and your donation would make all the difference - All for Paul!

I love you and miss you so much, Uncle Paul.
