Allegro Vet Bill Fundraiser

On December 21st, 2022, Meredith’s beloved Lynx Point Siamese cat, Allegro, was diagnosed with a condition known as megacolon. Poor Allegro was in such discomfort and distress, that several enemas from the vet and laxatives were not able to alleviate his obstruction. He was brought back to the vet the next morning for manual removal of the stool blocking his colon. They were not able to get everything, but they were able to remove a substantial amount, granting him some relief. Allegro was put on several medications to help with getting his appetite back, dealing with nausea, some antibiotics, and meds for helping ease the passing of waste through his colon.

We thought we were through the worst of things at this point. We were waiting for the medication to work its magic. But Allegro just wasn’t going. He was getting lethargic again, and we started to worry. We took him in again on January 4th, 2023. He was still experiencing obstructions. Another exam, an ultrasound, and another enema. Again, they were able to get a lot out, but not all of it. We were given a new medication to stimulate the muscles in the colon to try to get him to go on his own.

January 6th, Meredith could tell something was still off, so she called the vet and was able to get him in at the last minute. We were expecting the worst news any pet owner could hear. Meredith cried the entire way to the very clinic. When we met with the vet, he suggested another enema based on the physical exam that day. We left Allegro at the clinic for about an hour, and, when we came back, they told us they were able to clear the obstruction and that Allegro was using the litter box on his own. Meredith was so happy she asked to hug the vet and there were some tears of joy.

Since that visit, Allegro has been doing much better. We are still in the phase of learning to manage his megacolon with medication. But if that is unable to happen, Allegro would need surgery to remove his colon, and we have been quoted $2,500-$3,500 for that surgery.

Last July, Meredith was laid off from her job and was finally offered a position in her previous profession this last December. Finances have been very tight, and all of Allegro’s care has been put on credit cards. To date, his care with clinic visits, procedures, and medications has totaled $2871.43.
