This fundraiser is for my sister and her husband, Susan and David Sowder. They were living in Estero Bay Village (formerly Tahiti Village), a mobile home neighborhood in Estero, Florida when Hurricane Ian hit them dead-on. They had made reservations at a hotel, knowing it wasn't prudent to stay in their mobile home, but the hotel canceled them at the last minute, following evacuation orders. They hunkered down with their dog Teddy at a friend's mobile home built to Cat 3 specs and survived a night of pure hell, only to find out the next morning that they had absolutely nothing left. They managed to get one text and one email to us, so we know they survived. Her text said "It is destroyed. I don't even have clothes." They can't send us pictures, so I posted one of them in happier times instead. They have no cell service, internet, power or water and are staying temporarily at a friend's mobile home. Insurance for mobile homes in Florida is prohibitively expensive, and the coverage is minimal, so they didn't have any. They are in their early 70's. David retired from Amtrack after over 20 years, and Sue retired as secretary to the Rotary Club of Indianapolis. They moved to their mobile home about 7 years ago. They've always led a frugal life and never spent money they didn't have. Please help them recover from this catastrophic event. Any amount you can spare will help them rebuild their lives and get back on their feet. Sue has 4 sisters and a brother, all of whom are doing everything they can to help them. I'm the closest in Jacksonville, and her daughter lives in Indianapolis. I think they're going to go there as soon as they can get away, but they need help getting back on their feet. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
