Pam Goes ALL THE WAY IN for Community Singing!

In 2022, I decided to put myself out there more as an artist. Holy sh**, friends, has the Universe delivered! And this is why I’m reaching out to my community … to help me participate in a masters level study program on vocal improvisation called ALL THE WAY IN. I'm one of 22 artists from around the world selected by the internationally known vocalist and improvisational genius Rhiannon. This extraordinary opportunity will catapult my community-based, creative work to a new level.
ALL THE WAY IN will build my skills to go deeper into new places and purposes. It will:
- Support my goal to activate singing more in community and ritual spaces.
- Build new alliances and projects with global artists.
- Build my intuitive, improvisational, and collaborative tool box on multiple levels.
The study initially included 21 full teaching days (5-hours daily) held in two beautiful locations, Rhiannon's home in Hakalau, Hawaii (January and a retreat center in Perugia, Italy (June). A third opportunity (1 week in Montreal) was added unexpectedly, offering a fabulous opportunity for deeper collaboration and learning. Each location is chosen for the natural beauty as well as the creative people in each community, which are active contributors to the work. Between times will include additional study and connections via Zoom.
COMMUNITY BENEFIT:
Every time I "go there" ... open myself to risk, dare to believe more fully in my gifts, run joyously to the creative playground to connect with fascinating people ... I never know exactly what will happen. But always, more community goodness is created.
- Studied improvisation with David Darling and the faculty of Music for People in the early 2000s as part of my Indy Arts Council Creative Renewal Art Fellowship; came home to co-found an improv band, integrate the work into my choirs, and improvise at TEDx.
- Trained in community song leading in 2015 through the Ubuntu Choir Network; came home to co-create SongSquad with my brother Adam and have led group singing in all manner of community spaces, from Spark at Monument Circle to a song circle on ritual and repair in NOLA in collaboration with music healers Natasha Thomas and kei slaughter.
- Selected for the highly collaborative IndyConvergence residency (arts+science) in 2022, where I met New Orleans visual artist Kelly Anne Mueller. Kelly and I later collaborated on an installation; a garden of leafy and blooming sculptures that inflated in response to each layer of a 5-part chant I composed. Concocted and created in under 8 weeks it opened in October at the Baton Rouge Contemporary Art Gallery.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED = $8,020 Expense Details (updated 4/13/23 to include a 3rd unexpected week in Montreal and outrageous flight cost to Italy):
- Workshop: $7,300 for 5 weeks (a portion of food and lodging is included)
- Food: $800
- Lodging: $1,025
- Airfare: $3,800 (to Hawaii, Italy, Montreal)
- Misc.: $450 (shared car rental, train/bus fares, etc.).
