All Kids Deserve A Christmas Tree
Donation protected
On September 30th, we lost a very special Christmas Elf when my mom passed away after an extraordinary battle with cancer.
Sue loved Christmas. She loved every possible thing about the season & a quick glance at the amount of decorations in her garage would prove this!
A few years ago, my family was looking for a way to give back to those in need. While preparing for Christmas that year, I started asking myself the question “How do lower income families pay for Christmas decorations?” Trees can cost $100+ at the grocery store & decorations can bring the total above $200. I found out that most can’t.
We struggled with the thought of children not having a Christmas tree as their parents prioritized basic needs. I could not imagine being a child & not having a tree or being a parent that has to choose between decorations, presents, or other family needs.
We decided to put an ad on Craigslist reaching out to families that might be willing to accept our help. The only requirements were that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to provide a Christmas tree & they must have children. That year we had the opportunity to meet 3 separate families at a tree farm, allowing them to cut down their own tree, provided them with lights, stand, bulbs, topper, then delivered everything to their home.
The following Christmas when my mom found out about this, she jumped at the chance to participate. We were able to help 7 families that year with a total of 16 children!
Knowing how much my mom loved Christmas & treasured this specific opportunity to help families in need, we are excited to keep this tradition going in her memory!
