My name is Rachel Nicol, and I just wrapped production on my directorial debut queer short film.
My team? A group of incredibly talented women—emerging filmmakers and artists who have inspiring passion for their work and zeal to represent women in the filmmaking industry.
My story? A story of longing, limerence, and the destruction of current relationships by the yearning for imaginary moments in one’s past.
My goal? To raise awareness about the internal struggles of limerence and its consequences. To encourage and promote women in a male-dominated industry. To fight for the normalization of queer and lesbian media representation that showcases the normality of queerness instead of its discovery.
Wrapping our shoot on the most wonderful set I have ever experienced was only the beginning of our journey. Post production now begins, as we put our heads together to cut, edit, and perfect our film in preparation for the next step—distribution. Film festivals, local screenings in Toronto, a premiere, and eventual online streaming are all on the docket as we prepare to share our finished project with viewers not only in North America but all over the world.
Post production is a huge financial undertaking for a group of volunteer artists who have come together to create this film simply for the love of the work. We have been blessed thus far by your generous donations, and I am here to ask once more for your help. Whether through sharing this GoFundMe, engaging with our social media posts, following our film account, or donating any amount to support our film, your support would be greatly appreciated and forever remembered.
I cannot wait for you all to see what we have been working on—but for now, back to work.
