I have currently met my initial goal of $2,500 and any extra donations I receive will go to extra hospital expenses, post-op supplies, paying back my family who will take care of me post-op, and hopefully even a legal name change I’ve been working toward for a year.
Hi all! My name is Alix, I'm 21, nonbinary, and I am trying to raise money for gender affirming top surgery. I am currently an undergrad Psychology student in Florida. I have been working hard to try and make this dream a reality since my freshman year of college, but I knew this was what I wanted/needed long before that.
Not only will this surgery cure my chest dysphoria, but it will also assist in easing the chronic back pain I have been experiencing since I was 17 years old. Chest dysphoria has made it impossible to feel comfortable in my body and my gender identity. My back pain has impacted every area of my life and even prevented me from getting a job for 3 years. I have already raised $400 from a previous campaign, and previously calculated that the max amount I will need for the surgery (not counting recovery expenses) is $3,000, with my health insurance partially covering it. The usual out-of-pocket price for top surgery is $8,000-$12,000. However, I just found out that due to Republican anti-trans legislation, my insurance no longer covers gender affirming surgery. I am currently in communication with my insurance company and the surgeons office to confirm an updated price.
I plan to get the surgery by Dr. Omar Beidas in Orlando, FL. If you would like to help a trans person in need, anything helps! If you can't afford to donate, share this fundraiser with your friends!
